Dahlia ‘Cafe au Lait’

Dinnerplate dahlias are near the top of the WOW! flowers list and this lovely Cafe au Lait is no exception. Showcasing eye-catching, huge flowers (10” wide) and dense with petals (formal decorative form), these flowers range in color from pale peach to a creamy beige. Whiter towards the outsides, the color intensifies towards the center. An imposing specimen, this dahlia can reach 4′ tall and produce an abundance of flowers from summer through early fall. It takes just 2 or 3 flowers to highlight a kitchen vase. Outdoors, plants in full bloom may need staking. Fertilize during the bloom season for best flowering results. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun and deadhead to extend blooming. Plants can be left in the ground in zones 8 and higher; otherwise dig up tubers and store over the winter in a cool dry place. Water regularly during the growing season but once foliage has gone dormant, keep watering to a minimum. Treat any powdery mildew with copper fungicide.
