purple tomatillo and cayenne salsa

Purple Salsa

This colorful salsa uses Purple Tomatillos and Purple Cayenne Chiles. Of course, if you close your eyes, it tastes the same as green tomatillo salsa 🙂


1 pound purple tomatillos, husked
1 small red onion, minced
1 purple cayenne chile, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
1/4 cup purple basil leaves, minced
Salt and freshly ground pepper


Remove the tomatillo husks and wash the tomatillos to remove the stickiness.

Mince the garlic, chile, and onion. I use a mini-food-chopper. Add the basil and chop some more. It’s like making a pesto. Remove to a bowl.

Chop the tomatillos (but not a fine as the onions). Fold them into the pesto. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
